Norland’s Townsend makes BIFM board
Norland’s Ian Townsend has been appointed to the board of the British Institute of Facilities Management. Ian, who has been a senior executive at Norland since 2008 and a member of BIFM for 7 years, will serve a two year tenure as the BIFM Home counties chair.
Ian is a Business Unit Director at Norland Managed Services with responsibility for clients based in the South of England with integrated FM and managed service requirements. Having spent 30 years in the construction, M&E and facilities industry in both civilian and military environments, Ian has experienced many of the challenges faced by modern business.
“It is my firm belief that the BIFM supports the image of modern facilities as a professional career of choice. My experience, knowledge and dedication to supporting the BIFM as a professional institute will focus on how we recruit, how we retain by education and development at all levels of the FM profession and how we continue to grow the Membership”. Ian went on to say “Political and economic pressures influence business decisions almost immediately and create challenges in the short term for our members. BIFM ensures its members have the skill to support today’s challenges whilst driving through innovation, quality and value for the long term benefit of the business”.
Ismena Clout, BIFM chairman said “The main role of the board is to guide the Institute through setting strategic direction and ensure good governance. I am in no doubt that we have a team who can take BIFM to the next level and beyond as we all work to advance the FM profession”.
Ian is keen to promote the benefits that BIFM offers to those that have entered into FM as a career either consciously or unconsciously. He is married to Janet and they have two children Henry (7) and Harriet (4).
