ENERGY MATTERS GAINS AWARD RECOGNITION
Energy Matters, Norland Managed Services’ innovative energy management service, has won two awards in the 2011 Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice: a Gold in the Property Management category for Energy Matters, and a Bronze in the Education and Training category for Energy Matters Training. The Green Apple Awards are presented annually in recognition of companies, councils and communities carrying out projects that enhance the environment. There were more than 500 nominations this year. Norland designed Energy Matters to assist customers to respond to increasingly stringent environmental obligations, and save money, by actively managing their energy supply and usage. The field is vast and complex, and quite segmented. Norland identified a need to join these disparate elements and create a service that encapsulated everything, so that its customers could simply outsource the entire responsibility to one provider, a provider that brings together all aspects of engineering and maintenance best practices, energy management services and utility supply and procurement into one role. Norland called this ‘Energy Matters’. Energy costs for most organisations are probably the third-largest expense, after staff and building costs. They present an opportunity to reduce both cost and carbon output, but business managers are faced with a vast array of options and solutions that could be adopted to make those reductions – including combined heat and power, bio fuels, waste to energy, solar photovoltaics, wind power, heat source pumps and insulation. Energy Matters is designed to permanently cut energy demand and costs, source clean and on-site energy alternatives, measure and benchmark the building’s carbon footprint, renew asset infrastructure by developing energy efficient solutions, identify and meet legislative obligations, educate staff in energy awareness, and achieve corporate social responsibility goals. Ian Entwisle, Norland’s chief executive, said: “There was a distinct market opportunity to provide a unified and comprehensive energy management service. Energy Matters was our solution, and it has proved its worth with a number of clients securing significant savings in terms of both energy consumption and cost. “Winning Gold and Bronze Green Apple awards recognises the innovation that has been demonstrated in developing this service.” —– Ends —– Notes for editors:
